If I got the time, I like doing free walking tours wherever I am. I find it's a great way to get familiar with the city, learn about its history, and why not, meet some other travelers. Don't get me wrong, some of them have been really bad, but the majority have been a good experience.

Piran will make you forget you're in Slovenia. The narrow streets and colorful windows will make you feel somewhere in Italy. That's because Piran, same as lots of cities in the Istrian coast were under the Venetian Republic ruling for hundreds of years. The view from the old city walls was truly astonishing.

Today I left lovely Ljubljana to go to Postojna, famous for its enormous cave system. The caves were extremely touristy, but beautiful nevertheless. The second main attraction in Postojna is the Predjana Castle, the biggest castle inside of a cave! Definitely worth a visit.

Unless really necessary, I try not to take public transportation or taxis to move around a city. I much rather walk to my destinations throughout the day. Walking is not only a great way to explore a city (and do some exercise while you're at it) but also it opens the door to random encounters with other people, unplanned activities, or delicious food along the way.

This is a strong statement, but I have to say Lake Bled is one of the most beautiful places I've visited in my life. The turquoise waters, the small church in the middle of the lake, the surrounding green mountains. Everything adds up to a heaven-like landscape. I only did a day-trip here, but I could've stayed another day, or a month! Don't skip Vintgar Gorge, just 5km north of Bled, for more beautiful landscapes. Picking the daily picture was never as hard as it was today.

Honest question: how much do you know about Slovenia? Personally, I knew nothing, not even it's capital: Ljubljana. I arrived to this city having no idea what to expect, and I was happily surprised. Ljubljana got it right, in multiple ways. They closed the city center to traffic in 2008, and in 2016 they received the title of Green Capital of Europe, having the most green space per capita 🌳. All this to say: add Slovenia to your future travel plans.
