We were woken up at 6am by the sound of the Gibbons. We rushed to the observation deck of the treehouse, and after waiting for a bit we were able to see them! We saw a couple of males and a female. We then learned we were very lucky, not all visitors get to see them, especially from that close.

A good friend of mine recommended me to do the "Gibbon Experience" while in Laos. It is quite pricey, but I had already heard some many great things about it that I had to do it. It's a 3 day experience where you get to live in a treehouse in the middle of the Nam Ha National Park, only accessible by zipline.

Land borders are always a bit sketchy. They know tourists have no other option so you kinda have to accept their terms. I've heard horror stories about other borders, but this one wasn't too bad, other than the bus to tuk tuk to bus to shuttle dance. Huay Xai is a small village, and most people just stay here in transit to their next destination. Something I've learned on my first day in Laos: food portions are way bigger than in Thailand.
